Dwandwa – The Rhythm of Samatā (NMACC, Mumbai)
Dwandwa explores the foundational play of opposites that shapes both the cosmos and the inner landscape of the self. Inspired by Shiva’s profound duality—ascetic and dynamic, stillness and motion, destruction and renewal—the work extends beyond a single deity to reflect on contrasting forces that coexist, collide, and complement one another.
Taal forms the rhythmic pulse where opposites meet—sound and pause, strike and release, fullness and emptiness—each cycle revealing the architecture of balance. Through Abhinaya, the work moves between the gravity of ascetic stillness and the fluid brightness of playful grace, allowing these energies to illuminate each other and deepen the exploration of tension and equilibrium.
Pairs such as masculine and feminine, weight and lift, power and softness, containment and expansion, earth and ether emerge as guiding motifs. Each gesture carries its counterpoint; each movement holds its echo. Duality here is not conflict but a fundamental principle: every form, every rhythm, and every self is shaped by its opposite.
Ultimately, Dwandwa presents duality as the essential architecture of existence—a continuous negotiation between forces, echoing the eternal balance embodied in Shiva himself.
